Alberta's new Minister for Innovation and Advanced Education, Deputy Premier Dave Hancock, met with CUC's administration in the PE Centre Tuesday morning, February 18. Joining CUC's administrative team for the meeting was Student Association President Kryzia Abacan, a 4th-year English major from Toronto.

The Deputy Premier said that as he takes on his new portfolio he plans to visit each of Alberta's 26 publicly-funded post-secondary institutions. After visiting CUC he visited Red Deer College and Olds College.

"We were both delighted and honoured that the deputy premier spent two hours on our campus," said CUC President Mark Haynal.  "As a result of his time on campus Minister Hancock now has a much fuller appreciation of the many good things happening at CUC."

There have been four different ministers for Innovation and Advanced Education in the last four years.  The Honourable David Hancock is the first to visit CUC during that time.  According to CUC Archivist Edith Fitch, the last time a minister for post-secondary education spent time on campus was when the Honourable John Gogo visited in 1990.
