Students from six different schools converged on campus for a choral music festival sponsored and organized by Parkview Adventist Academy the weekend of November 1. Participants came from Chinook Winds Adventist Academy in Calgary, south Side christian School in Red Deer, College Heights Christian School in Lacombe, Rosthern Christian School in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, along with Parkview Adventist Academy and CUC.
The clinician for the festival was CUC Professor of Music Dr. Wendolin Munroe. "We're excited to have all the choral students training with Dr. Munroe to learn two new pieces they will perform as a mass choir for both services at College Heights SDA Church on Sabbath," said one of the lead organizers of the event, Kaitlyn Ruiz, Parkview Adventist Academy's director of public relations.
In addition to rehearsals with Dr. Munroe students also had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops including: Song Writing, Ukelele Tuning, Praise Band Leadership, and Public Performance Tips (presented by CUC's touring quartet, Proclaim).
This is the first choral music festival held on the hilltop in many years. "We felt a real burden to bring Adventist junior and senior high school students together in a non-competitive venue," said Ruiz. "We wanted to provide an experience that was both spiritually uplifting and musically educational for all who joined us."
